Clearwater
NJ Circle of Song
at
the First United Methodist Church of Asbury Park
906 Grand Avenue (near 2nd Avenue) in Asbury Park.
A donation
between $3 and $7 is suggested, which will be divided
between
Clearwater and Pastor
Sony’s work with the homeless and the hungry.
Our format will be much like the Circle
of Song Stage at the Festival: We
are planning to have two Featured Leader-Performers each
month. I will also
participate, and so can YOU.
There will be many more opportunities for audience
members to participate than was possible during the Festival.
PLEASE COME AND BRING YOUR INSTRUMENTS.
Sharleen
Leahey and Mark
Bodino
will
be our first Featured Leader-Performers (see their Bios below).
We are encouraging songs about the environment and
sing-along songs.
Directions:
- Garden State Pkwy, North or South to
- Exit 100 (Route 33 East)
- Continue on 33 East to the end
- Take a left onto Main Avenue
- Continue past the Railroad Station to Asbury Avenue (about 10
blocks)
- Take a left on Asbury Avenue, continue to Grand Avenue.
- Take a left onto Grand, go about two blocks.
- Parking is in the rear of the church.
- We will post signs how to find us.
Bios of the Featured Leader-Performers:
Sharleen Leahey
has been writing and performing topical folk music for the past
30 years. From 1993 to 1999 she was the founding editor of
Songs for Peace Magazine, publishing over 100 songs advocating
peace, human rights and ecological responsibility. Sharleen
was strongly influenced by the great topical songwriters of the
1960s, including Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs and Buffy Sainte-Marie.
Her debut CD “So Frail” challenges us to question our
leaders and ourselves on the issues of war and peace. Sharleen’s
songs are a bridge from outrage and despair to heightened
awareness and active resistance. Her music echoes a
growing movement for peace and justice now rising from every
corner of the Earth.
Mark
Bodino began playing guitar at age
13 and piano at age 18. He
also noticed that he enjoyed the expressiveness of singing at
age 18. Since that
time, he has described his love for music as an obsession.
His original and cover songs have been well-received in a
variety of settings throughout Manhattan, New Jersey and
Pennsylvania.
